Texas Hold'em Poker Game Rules
The
Texas Holde'm game of
online poker is one of the most popular,
highly studied and news covered cards game around the
world. It is covered live on television from tournaments
in Las Vegas to national championships around the
different parts of the globe. Practice your Texas
Holde'm poker skills until you are ready to move up to
the real fun at the money tables.
The Game:
1. The
betting structure in Texas holde'm can vary. Sometimes
antes are used, but most games start with two players to
the left of the dealer placing out a predetermined
amount of money, also known as posting the blinds, so
there is an initial amount to get things started.
2. The
dealer shuffles up a full deck of 52 playing cards.
(make sure everybody is playing with a full deck)
3. Each
player is dealt two cards face down. These cards are
known as your pocket or hole cards.
4. Then
there is a pre flop round of betting starting with the
player to the left of the two players who posted the
blinds.
5. The
amount each player can bet depends on what kind of game
it is. (might want to set some limits, just don’t give
up your car, house, or girlfriend for that matter)
6. like most
games of poker, each player can check, raise, or fold.
7. After the
betting round ends, in order to prevent cheating the
dealer throws out the burn card, in lemans terms it is
basically the top card of the deck.
8. The
dealer then flips the flop cards or the next three cards
face up on the table. The flop cards are communal cards
that players can use in combination with their own two
pocket or hole cards to form a poker hand. (hopefully
you can do so)
9. Than
there is another round of betting that starts with the
player to the left of the dealer.
10. When the
round of betting ends, the dealer burns another card
(not literally, he just throws it out.) and flips one
more card on the table. This card is known as the
turn card. Players can use this sixth card (turn
card) to form a five card poker hand.
11. The
player to the left of the dealer begins another round of
betting. In many types of games, this is where the bet
size doubles (depending on the players and on what you
are betting on).
12. At the
end of the game, the dealer burns another card and
places a river card face up on the table. This card is
your last chance to form a good hand. Players can now
use any of the five cards on the table or the two cards
in their pocket to form a five card poker hand.
13. There is
one final round of betting starting with the player to
the left of the dealer
14. After
that, the great showdown begins; all of the players
remaining in the game begin to reveal their hands (oh
no). This begins with the player to the left of the last
player to call.
15. The
player who shows the best hand wins! There are cases
where players with equal hands share the winnings. (not
crazy about having to share, than again who is?)
Once you understand this
basic structure of the game, you can play holde'm and
even some of the many holde'm variants out there.
Holde'm is an easy game to learn (to some people), just
difficult to master. Becoming a master can be an
expensive adventure, especially in the traditional
setting of a casino poker room. Thankfully, you can
practice all you want for free with online poker rooms.
(seems like that only when you practice, do they let you
win :)
