February 27, 2008
North Carolina state police raided three illegal business

Investigators said the operators of the alleged illegal

paid out cash prizes in the amounts of $3,000 to undercover
police officers during the under cover investigation that took
place in Gastonia.
State police officials claimed that during the raids they caught online gamblers seated
in front of computer terminals with the owners and managers of the
illegal businesses doing little to conceal their gamming
operations.
While questioning participants of the illegal gambling
operations police took their IDs before releasing them.
Computers, cash and tickets used in the alleged illegal gambling
operations were confiscated with police promising to maket arrests
once all evidence is taken in and processed.
“You could ride by and see computer monitors turning like a slot machine,” said Woody Burgess, Chief of nearby Cherryville Police Department.
“They weren’t trying to hide anything. You can be charged for just playing.”
police investigators stated that the investigation has been going on since November
of 2007 and the 3 illegal businesses J&B’s Internet Sweepstakes, Phone Sweeps and Cherry Sales, had around 20 computers
on site to support thier activities.
