Online casino gambling is up in Prague.
(Nov. 12, 2005)
The Prague
Post published some interesting Czech online casino gambling numbers as
part of an interview with the CEO of an entertainment company this week.
Last year
Czechs spent 84.6 billion Kč ($3.4 billion) gambling for an 8.5 percent
increase over a year earlier,
Katerina Danhelovna,
general director of Synot Holding, a corporation that includes some of
the nation's major gaming providers revealed.
The Czech Republic ranks fourth in Europe in terms of the volume of
personal expenditure on gambling, and Danhelovna expects less
traditional forms of gambling like the Internet to open up in the years
ahead despite current restrictions.
Referring to competition from external organizations using the Internet,
she opines that although their operations are illegal in the country,
continual investment in marketing means that their share of the market
has the potential to increase.
"We are of the view that a change in the (Internet gambling) law should
end illegal practices, including advertising for these services, or on
the other hand liberalize the market and allow Czech betting offices to
offer Internet betting. In the case of market liberalization for Czech
companies, we will be ready to offer betting services over the Internet
to our clients," says Danhelovna.
