Florida joins states looking to legalize USA online poker
A Florida State Representative has submitted a legistlation that if passed would legalize USA online poker in the state. The legistlation comes with the hope it will help raise $200 million per year to aid Florida fight its projected $3.2 billion yearly budget deficit.
Joseph Abruzzo, a Democrat representative filed the proposed Internet Poker Consumer Protection And Revenue Generation Act which could create a framework for Florida to regulate online poker sites that can protect customers and increase the state’s tax revenues by authorising, implementing and creating a licensing and regulatory body for online poker.
Abruzzo represents Palm Beach, Florida’s largest and wealthiest county. It is estimated that nearly 900,000 Florida residents play online casino and poker games. Abruzzo projected that his drive to legalize online poker could raise as much as $200 million each year in tax revenues for the state. This measure comes in time when Florida is facing a large annual budget deficit and the proposed legislation would charge half a million U.S. Dollars for a license to offer poker in the state and online operators will be required to pay 20% of monthly income..
If voted into law, the proposed legistlation would take effect from July and also out lines the particular requirements for operators alongside consumer safeguards and licensing demands.
